Scott McDermott lost his life tragically on 25 September 2005.  Scott and his wife Donna were driving in Tucson when their car was struck at high speed by car driven by an intoxicated man.  Scott died in the wreck and Donna was critically injured, but she has fought back and will recover.  Scott will be missed by his many friends,  including just about everyone who ever met him.  Below is a favorite photo of Scott, taken on May 19, 2004 when he and Gerhard Marx and I explored South Africa.  Here, at the top of Table Mountain overlooking Cape Town, we had just completed two weeks of a life long dream.  Scott could not wait to get home to his beloved family.

Good bye old buddy, I know that you are now in a better place.  You are deeply missed.
