We stopped right along the road and Gerhard pointed us to a population of Dioscorea hemicrypta.  They were difficult to photograph because the stems were covered with a tangle of their own vines.  This old monster showed a trunk that had formed two growing points and had formed a "V" in the trunk.  How old could this plant be?  Probably hundreds of years.
